Interior Coatings/Linings
for Steel Pails and Drums

Interior coatings are used to protect the pail/drum from a variety of chemicals or environmental conditions. Pipeline Packaging can assist you in selecting the proper interior coating for your products, but we strongly recommend that you conduct testing on the interior coating to determine final compatibility with your products.

Epoxy Phenolic Lining

Epoxy Phenolic Lining

The epoxy phenolic lining is designed to provide outstanding chemical resistance for products that have a pH range of 7.0–9.0 (alkaline). Typical products packaged include alkaline products, fatty acids, detergents, emulsions, foods, general organic chemicals, surfactants, and water-based resins.

Gold Phenolic Lining

Gold Phenolic Lining

Gold phenolic linings, also known as clear phenolic, have a high degree of acid and solvent resistance, so aren’t recommended for alkaline products. They hold products with a pH range of 3.0–7.0. A properly cured lining will exhibit good adhesion but is less flexible than the red and green phenolic linings. Typical products used with gold phenolic linings include acid compounds, agricultural chemicals, insecticides, corrosive chemicals, solvents and solvent containing materials, nitrocellulose lacquers and inks, food products, essential oils and petroleum products.

Green Phenolic Lining

Green Phenolic Lining

Green phenolic linings, like gold linings, have a high degree of acid and solvent resistance, and are not recommended for alkaline products. A properly cured lining will exhibit good adhesion and limited flexibility. Typical products that go into these pails/drums have a pH range of 3.0–7.0, such as agricultural chemicals, insecticides, corrosive chemicals, solvents and solvent containing materials, nitrocellulose lacquers and inks, food products, essential oils and petroleum products.

Red Phenolic Lining

Red Phenolic Lining

Red phenolic linings also have a high degree of acid and solvent resistance and are not recommended for alkaline products. Products contained within will have a pH range of 3.0–7.0. A properly cured lining will exhibit good adhesion and limited flexibility. Typical products which do not affect the lining are acid compounds, agricultural chemicals, insecticides, corrosive chemicals, solvents and solvent containing materials, nitrocellulose lacquers and inks, food products, essential oils and petroleum products.

Rust Inhibitor

Rust Inhibitor

Rust inhibitors retard the oxidation process, allowing greater time for the pail or drum to be filled with product. The inhibitor is not intended to act as a lining like the ones above. Pair the correct lining with your metal pail or drum to ensure your project’s success.
